According to Rian News Agency, quoting the Public Relations Department of Shiraz Petrochemical Company, a ceremony commemorating the National Export Day and Industry and Mining Day was held in Fars Province, during which outstanding exporters of the province were honored. At this event, attended by the Secretary General of the Iran House of Industry, Mine and Trade, the Governor of Fars Province, and a number of provincial officials, Shiraz Petrochemical Company was awarded the trophy and certificate of appreciation as the Top Exporter of Fars Province for the year 1404 (2025).
In part of the certificate of appreciation, signed by Hossein Ali Amiri, Governor of Fars Province, and addressed to the Managing Director of Shiraz Petrochemical Company, it is stated:
“Successful exports are the result of sound decision-making, perseverance along challenging paths, and a commitment to quality and commercial credibility.”
It further emphasizes that “economic actors who enter this arena with a farsighted and responsible approach play a decisive role in introducing the production and commercial capabilities of Fars Province at national and international levels.”
According to this report, Shiraz Petrochemical Company, as the oldest petrochemical complex in Iran and the Middle East (established in 1963), plays a vital and strategic role in the country’s economic structure. This complex is not only a symbol of the beginning of the petrochemical industry in Iran, but today it is also regarded as one of the main pillars of foreign exchange generation and food security.
Shiraz Petrochemical’s Key Role in the National Economy: Food Security and Support for the Agricultural Sector
Shiraz Petrochemical is the main hub for the production of chemical fertilizers in Iran. Products such as urea and ammonium nitrate, which are manufactured at this complex, are vital raw materials for soil enrichment and increasing agricultural productivity. A significant portion of domestic farmers’ demand for nitrogen-based fertilizers is supplied by this company, preventing dependence on imports and the outflow of foreign currency for the provision of agricultural inputs.
Foreign Exchange Earnings and Non-Oil Exports
Despite its long history, the company has significantly enhanced its export capacity through the modernization of its units, including the commissioning of the Martyrs of Marvdasht unit in recent years. Shiraz Petrochemical is now among the leading exporters of urea to global markets.
The foreign currency generated from the export of these products is supplied through the NIMA system, contributing to the stabilization of the country’s monetary cycle. The annual production capacity of this complex exceeds three million tons, a substantial portion of which is exported to international markets.
Employment Generation and Regional Development
This complex plays an unparalleled role in the economy of Fars Province and southern Iran in terms of direct employment, with more than 2,800 people working at the site. In addition, thousands of indirect jobs have been created in transportation, logistics services, maintenance and repairs, and downstream industries. The company’s products serve as feedstock for many small and medium-sized industries, such as the production of plastics, resins, and specialty chemicals.
Position in the Capital Market (Stock Exchange)
Listed under the symbol “Shiraz” on the Tehran Stock Exchange, the company is considered one of the fundamental and influential market symbols. Its profitability has a direct impact on the portfolios of retail shareholders as well as major institutional investors, including pension funds that hold shares in the company.
In recent years, adopting a circular economy approach, Shiraz Petrochemical has succeeded in converting industrial waste materials, such as calcium chloride, into commercial products. This achievement has not only reduced environmental impacts but has also enhanced the company’s overall profitability.
